Safe use of the Shed’s metalworking equipment
Safety at KuShed is everyone’s responsibility. Before using any equipment, members are required to complete a general induction and sign the safety register. All incidents β however minor β must be reported to the Coordinator on duty. Personal protective equipment is available at the Shed and must be worn where indicated. If you’re unsure about anything, ask before you start.

Metal Lathe
Induction required. Remove the chuck key before switching on β always. Never wear gloves when operating the lathe. Tie back loose clothing.

Stick Welding
Induction required. Full PPE mandatory β welding mask, gloves, leather apron. Ensure adequate ventilation. Never weld near flammable materials.

MIG Welding
Induction required. Check gas connections before use. Keep the work area clear and have a fire blanket within reach. Allow workpieces to cool before handling.

Drill Press
Induction recommended. Clamp the workpiece β never hold by hand. Use the correct drill speed for the material. Lower the guard before drilling.

Angle Grinder
Induction recommended. Always use the side handle. Wear face shield, gloves and leather apron. Never remove the guard.

General Metalwork
Keep the metalwork area clean and clear of swarf. Dispose of offcuts safely β metal edges are sharp. Label hot workpieces clearly.
